No-Nonsense Ideas To Supercharge Your Skin Care Routine

Turning My Passion For Skin Care Into A Blog

Why is Skin Care Important?

Your skin is your body’s largest organ. It serves as a protective barrier between the inside of you and the rest of the world.

It helps to regulate body temperature and acts as a filter. Skin exists in a constant state of growth, with old cells dying as new cells are forming.

Proper skin care is important due to the fact that it is our largest barrier against infection. When our skin is kept healthy and moist, the barrier stays strong. Dry skin, which in some instances, can cause slight, tiny tears in the surface which is an open invitation to bacteria and viruses.

So, come follow along on my journey of how Skin Care has “always” as far back as I can remember, been a huge passion and love of mine.  For me, it’s always been about the passion and the belief that maintenance in this area of beauty, will certainly pay off.

Many years ago,  a family member who was a Skin care consultant for a well known, top of the line company continually reminded me, “take care of your skin now, you will be thankful when you age.”  Truer words were never spoken! If there was one thing I listened to, it was that comment.

The years have allowed me to purchase and read and research a majority of many Skin care lines on the market.  Am I a doctor or esthetician, no!  But I have spent many years of reading and researching what good skin care can do for the aging process.

You won’t find medical terms here…or vocabulary that requires some kind of medical journal,,  just a blog on a topic and a product I use, and love and hope to share.

I hope I can express my feelings and points of view, tips and tricks, and give you, my readers, something you may have never known before reading my blog! You know where my focus is, if I’m willing to share and spend time writing about it!  Yup, it excites me!

Take The Fear Out Of Aging

Do You Have A Fear of Getting Older?

As an adult, our fears associated with aging- are more common than you think. Instead of worrying about the inevitable signs of growing older, embrace and celebrate your years of experience and find happiness that only maturity can bring.

Aging is a fact of life. We all will wrinkle, sag, notice dark spots, and discover new bumps and marks almost daily. Many years ago, aging was almost a taboo topic as was gender norms, weight and so on.

But today, our 16 year olds want botox ( a procedure that freezes your facial muscles) and meds to make them feel and look like models they see on TV. Perhaps, it’s the “anti-Aging” products seen daily and the immersion of the beauty business everywhere.  I often think, it has conditioned us to be hyper-aware of every new line or spot which is a constant reminder of “yes, I’m getting older”.

Don’t you often feel that just hearing the word “anti-aging” automatically sets our mindset to vanity (wrinkles, age spots, collagen depletion) which is why the term has gotten such publicity. I feel.. stress, alcohol, smoking,     poor eating habits and lack of exercise are all factors that can deplete your system.

What really sets me into panic mode is, high blood pressure, low levels of calcium or vitamins, or any other disease that will affect how I live. Am I going to do whatever it takes to turn back my body’s clock,,???  You betcha!

Some Common Questions about Skin Care

1.Is it too late to start skin care?

The Short answer,,NO! It’s easy to feel like you have missed the boat, but the truth is that it is never too late to start a regimen. By starting a routine now—even if you feel you have seen aging for a very long time, you can target specific issues and turn things around.

All this and more will be explained in coming issues of this blog. You will begin to have a clearer understanding of how and why ingredients do what they do. You’ve Got This!

2. Isn’t skin care therapy expensive?

Although ads and many beauty guru’s suggest otherwise, you don’t need to fork out hundreds of dollars (or much time) to have an effective skin care routine. In fact, sometimes “Less is More”.  It does not need to be complicated. Skincare is all about prevention and protection. This means skincare goes beyond cleansers and moisturizers. It’s about regular sun protection like sunscreen and hats. It’s so important to support our skin as it goes through the various aging processes, and because the impact of  UV light over our lifetime changes, so does the quality of our skin.

So, what does a Simple, preventative skincare routine look like? Three products: a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen.  Don’t worry, we are going to dive much deeper into what to look for when purchasing the products.  TidBit: Even if your using the fanciest of serums or moisturizers to combat aging, if you don’t use sunscreen daily, “you’re fighting a losing battle.” says  Melanie Grant.

3.Are Skin Care products worth their high end price?

After teaching for so long, part of my job was researching. To this day, I research everything. So as a consumer, I did my homework. I knew what I needed and what I was willing to spend. Some of my findings were that pricier, high-end skin care products/brands often include their own proprietary blend of ingredients in their products, which is sourced from labs exclusively only to them. (Future posts will go into detail on companies that do this). These products will never be found in the aisles of your favorite drug store shelves. But these are the products, that prove to show remarkable effects on your skin.

I also check to make sure that high end companies show evidence that their product works. I look for clinical trials, and befores and afters of these trials. Then I can follow the case study and see if the company is actually reinvesting their own money into trials to improve product efficacy.  Also, check to see if these studies provide real statistics that support their promise.

For me, my skin care routine became a “no brainer”.  I still say ” I’m going to age gracefully for as long as I can”.  Throughout my life I have bought every skin care regimen on the market. I bought one product at a time untill I had everything I needed.

While it’s true, no therapy will return older skin to it’s 18 year old state, some damage can be reversed and future damage can be slowed down and in some cases even prevented.

How Can I Help?

Skin care works because of science, not because someone says so.  So, in theory, it is easy to tell if something will or won’t work by the ingredients and formulation of how it is made.
